This section contains information on the aquatic ecology of the lake from a variety of sources. One main source is the work carried out on the lake by Dr Ken Irvine’s team from Trinity College Dublin who  conducted research on the lake for around ten years.  Also, very important work carried out by Dr Cilian Roden and Paul Murphy on the benthic vegetation of marl lakes, including Lough Carra.

There are some aspects of the ecology of the lake and its surroundings which overlap between different sections of this website. We have arbitrarily placed these aspects in the section which we feel is most appropriate, but if you cannot find what you are looking for in one section, use the search facility to locate the relevant material.
