The next LCCA meeting will be held on Tuesday 25th November at 7.30pm in Belcarra Community Centre. Guest Speaker will be LCCA Director, Chris Huxley, reflecting on the past 25 years of Lough Carra. Also a brief presentation by Jarek Majkusiak on the LCCA Podcast series. There will also be the LCCA AGM prior to the public meeting. All are Welcome.

The next public meeting of the LCCA is Tuesday 20th January at 8pm in Clogher Community Centre (the first time we’ve used this venue).  Our guest speaker is Michael Kingdon of Clogher Environmental Group who’ll be talking about their numerous projects including a Sand Martin nesting wall and Hare’s Corner pond project “Upstream of Annies: Life on the Clogher Bog”. There will also be updates on the work of the LCCA and the Lough Carra LIFE Project. More information will be circulated closer to the date.

Kate is working with the Lough Carra LIFE Project on the Lesser Horseshoe bat initiatives and will give a presentation about this initiative and conservation measures for other bat species.

Lough Carra Life at Oireachtas Meeting.

On 28 January 2026, the Lough Carra Life Project Manager, Nicola Byrne and Surface Water Officer, Ann Marie Meaney, addressed the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy to underline the critical importance of continued EU LIFE funding for the protection of Lough Carra. The topic of this Committee meeting was Funding for LIFE Programmes. They stressed the need for sustained, dedicated environmental funding to support water quality, biodiversity, and sustainable agriculture in the catchment. Employment Opportunity with the LCCA – Project Consultant.

The Lough Carra Catchment Association (registered charity) is seeking the services of a Project Consultant on a part-time, fixed term, self-employed contract basis until November 2026 (with possibility of extension depending on funding) to help deliver an exciting programme of education, awareness and communication initiatives. 

This is a fantastic opportunity to support community engagement, environmental awareness, and the protection of one of Ireland’s most unique freshwater catchments.  If you are passionate about sustainability, education, communication, and making a positive environmental impact, we’d love to hear from you.

There will also be updates on the work of Lough Carra LIFE Project and the LCCA.
